the novel im going to be doing for the readers choice presentation is twiligt. this novel caught my attention a while ago when i saw it dealing with basically two completely different people starting to fall in love. there was a little twist in it also because she loved her bestfriend at the time she was human. so it was kind of like a love triangle. but you can say Edward kind of stole her because she started loving Edward more than she loved her bestfriend. Another twist was that her bestfriend was a wolf. im not really a horror type of person. but I do have a little liking toward vampires.twilight brings a lot to the science fiction world because its dealing with vampires. let me give you a little background of the novel. in the novel there was this human named bella that just moved from Arizona to Washington. she falls in love with this vampire named Edward. but little do she know her life is endangered when she falls in love with him. alot throughout the story its dealing with Edward fighting to save bella from not only himself but from others. but little did he know she wanted to become a vampire herself. Also in my presentation I will go deep into the depths about what/how the novel relates to science fiction. what it added to science fiction. also in what way did it differ from science fiction. IF it did differ from science fiction. also I wil be telling you a little about vampires. well the vmpire in the novel.  in my opinion this was a real good science fiction based book because the way it was set up. of course some people may disagree but every body is entitled to their own opinion.

one of the movies that I watched was splice it was basially this couple that tried to create this creature by using hman DNA on anial genes (land and sea creatures. clive and elsa named the creature dren. they got the name by the name on elsa shirt they just turned it backwards elsa wanted dren to live but the intention was to kill it before it got full grown. in my opinion this was more of a sci fi movie.


another movie I watchd was world war Z in the movie an infection spread in new York basically it started out as one person getting infected then that person bit anther person the so on and so forth. little by little people were turning into  zombies. jerry and a few other men traveled across the word to get the medicine to stopthe infection and in the end they stopped the infection.this movie was more of an action/ horror moie.


another movie I watched was the matrix it was basically about Thomas Anderson he I a computer programmer and a hacker. he thinks something isn't right and the only way to solve it isin the matrix. the atrix is basically another online world. then theres a mysterious man online named Morpheus. Morpheus wans to meet with Thomas to tell him theres another meaning behind the matrix. but there are 3 agents the stop him from meeting morpeus while he was at work. this movie was more of a sci fi movie.


another movie I watched was harry potter.harry potter who was an orphan discovered at the age of eleven that he was a wizard. he has  been living in a ordinary world with ordinary  people known as muggles. him being a wizard allows him to go to a magical school called hogwarts in a different level of a world. now that he is in Hogwarts he faces dark magic that is being called to him by a drk wizard named lord Voldemort who wants to kill harry potter to. this was more of an sci fi movie.


another movie that I watched was hunger games catching fire. it was basically about catniis and peeta how they went to all the fallen recruits district and paid their respect to all the falled recruits loved one but little did they know the game was about to be switched up an all the recuits that wwon the hunger games was going to be out back in the arena all together and play the hunger games ne more time. this movie was more o a sci fi movie.


another movie I watched was the host, the host was about these aliens called souls and they come to earth and they attempt to take over the human race. when they come to earth they insert themselves into a human and they connect to all the humans memory. basically they attatch themselves to the human and the human form this silver ring around their pupil. but melina was captured and she was inserted with one of the souls she was inserted with one of them the one she was inserted with was called the wanderer. but surprisingly her consciousness is still trying to take back over her body. this movie was more of a sci fi type of movie.

in the short story Berenice egaeus was born in a chamber in the story he says when he was younger all he used to do was read books so right then and there you can tell he wasn't a normal child because there is no child I know that all he does is read books. also in the story it say he grew up in the chamber with his cousin Berenice.  but they grew up differently he was ill of health and buried In gloom and she was agile gracious and overflowing with energy. basically they were two different people. but in my opinion as they got older Berenice was the one who got sick. later in the storty egagues starts to show his love for her. also itsays howhewas seeing her but not in the human being way. in my opinion I woiuld say he was just hallucinatingor he was just dreaming that he was seeing things.

the story the furnished room was a really short story it was a little different from Berenice ofcourse the women dies but the difference in the story was how they died. in the furnished room there was a man searcing for a women he fell in love with. he came across this room were he was just going to rest but he found something different. one reason how you can tell he was really in love woth this women was e could tell she was in the room. in the story it says he smelled her perfume. basically he kept getting out these little clue tat she was there. it was kind of crazy at the end when the housekeeper was talking to another lady about miss sprowls. basically they were saying that she committed suicide. when I was reading it I was wondering why tey didn't tell the man tht she committeed suicide. was it that they didn't want to scare him?

 the last short story was the boarded man in this short story the boarded window when I saw the title I automatically thought this wa going to e a different type of story from the title. it was basically about a man named murlock who built acabin. basically he was a widow his wife died. she was delirious and had a fever back then they were no doctors in miles and they had no noghbors and she was in no health to be left alone so he took care of her but in three days shepasses. it was kind of weird thought because it eas like he didn't even cry. but the book said that he shad no experience in grieving. but iknow it hurt that his wife died if he had nobody else. because if my significant other died I would've been balling tears. but it said he just sat there by the body tearless.

Blog Set 10

I the story the falloff the house of the usher it kind of was describing a spooky house kind of like the haunted houses at universal. but in the tory poe lets us know tht Roderick was one of his childhood friends also he said that Roderick was gloomy and mysterious.. also he said the house had an evil and diseased atmosphere from the decaying trees and mucky ponds around it. in the story poe says he came to the house because Roderick sent him a letter. in the letter Roderick was saying that he was feeling physical and emotionally ill. but the whole time im reading this im saying to myself I wouldn't step foot in that house if the house looked like it had an evil and diseased atmosphere. even tho Roderick was my childhood friend I would  be no were near that house. in plus he was saying that the inside of the house was just as spooky as the outside. also he says that Roderick is paler and less energetic that he once was. while he saying he was entering the house the whole time in y head im thinking about people at universal entering one of th haunter houses and seeing this zombie looking guy in a hotel uniform sitting down in a chair.

in the story afterward it was kind of hard for me to actually understand the story. although I know it was a little different from the first story. But I actually had to read it over a few times. but what I got out of the story after reading after a few times was that it was this lady named mary. Her husband disappeared but she keeps seeing his ghost also I remember this one part in the story that her cousin told her there was ghost but she wont know about them until long afterward. this story was more of a gothic style story in my opinion.

Update: with the story afterward it was basically those types of story that its like a mirror effect. in the beginning it said it was a ghost but she wont know until afterward. then in the end it said the same thing but in the end we actually understand why it said that.

one of  the movies I watched was the newer hansel and Gretel. well in this story it started off as a little boy and girl almost being caught by a witch but their  mom was a witch herself and before the humans killed their mother she put a spell over them so no witch could ever touch them then when they got older they became witch hunters they didn't find out their mom was a witch until toward the end of the movie when one of the evil witches told them. enough with the background of the story but this movie was more of a sci fi based movie because the way the movie was formatted.

another movie that I watched was the all time favorite Jurassic park. everybody know what happened in this movie.but if you didn't its about a group of people selected to go to a theme park that has re created dinosaurs. everybody think everything is going to go as planned until one of the dinasours get out then all hell breaks loose in the park. this movie was more of a fantasy based movie.

the other movie I watched was another all time favorite E.T. it  was about an alie getting stranded on the planet earth and a little boy named Elliot finds him and becomes friends with him. he shows his older brother and his little sister his new alien friend and all of them try to keep it  secret from their mother. but itdosent take long until ET gets sick

Blog Set #9

in the short poem Annabel Lee was about two kids that fell in love and one day it was a cold wind that came by and it chilled and killed his love Annabelle Lee. well that's what the story is about. in this poem to be honest I don't know if its they way I'm thinking or what but this boy seems crazy. because this whole time I'm reading this poem I'm thinking why couldn't they let Annabelle talk? why couldn't they let her say how she felt about him? Or how can a cold wind out of the sky kill he just like that? Or another question is how do we know that Annabelle feels the same way about him? What if he just feels this way about her and this whole time Annabelle lee just sees him as this little annoying boy that likes her. because were have you ever seen two kids fall in love before? well at least I never even once seen anything like that before.

Now I'm going to talk about the poem The Raven. This poem was a litttle different from the poem Annbelle Lee. when I firstread the poem the only thing I could get out of it was something about a chamber door. but when I kept re reading it another thing that stuck out to me was at the end when the man went off on the raven. it had me think was the raven mocking Lenore? then when he said. "Leave my loneliness unbroken! quit the bust above my door! Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from out my door" it mad me think did the raven transform into Lenore. because when he said "take thy form from out my door" made me think either the bird was sitting on or standing by the door or the bird turned into Lenore and the man was yelling at the bird and basically said get out of the form of Lenore and leave. because obviously when he was yelling at the bird he wanted the bird to leave. But what was the reason he got so mad at the bird?

update: well when I first red the poems I didn't really know anything about edgar allan poe but now that I found out a little about him now I know now he wasn't just some crazy old man he was just a man that lost his love. also now I know that they were really just KIDS in love. when he wrote the poem Annabelle lee.

Blog Set 5

the short story super toys last all year long kind of didn't really get my attention at first but then when i realized that the little boy David was a robot it kind of start grabbing my attention. kind of throughout the story David was wondering what was real and what wasn't. As to teddy already knew what was real and what wasn't. Also David really wanted to know if the mother really loved him. while i was reading it kind of had me question why was David questioning what was real and what wasn't? Also as to how teddy knew everything but David didn't?

The Cullings

The Cullings on the other hand actually had grab my attention from the start.Lucian and Cole were two brothers that lost their mother and father. But Lucian as the oldest basically raised his brother in the shadows with the help of Mrs.Bledsoe. As i was reading it i kind of didn't get why Lucian wanted to get caught by the imposers until he actually got caught. when the Guard Valerian brought him up to the "perfect" I was wondering why was he so nervous if he knew him? Toward the end it started to dawn on me that this story reminded me more and more of The Hunger Games. It kind of saddened me how Cassius just turned on them like that. It as like they had so much hope in Cassius and then he just turned on them like that. All Lucian was trying to do was  save Cole but he ended up putting him in grave danger.

 The Star

The appeal of stories about objects in space threatening the earth is because in earlier stings of objects in pace were dangerous. In my opinion they believe if they see another object in space that people should be aware of it. Also they should know what to do when they see another.  For example whenever the star got closer something bad would happen. some people looked at it like "oh whats the use to me" and others looked at it kind of worrisome. for example one of the schoolboys in the book says "stop a planet in its flight rob it of its centrifugal force, what then? centripetal has it, and down it falls into the sun! and this! do we come in the way?" If i was there i would also be worrisome because its a big star causing all these bad things the closer it gets.

Speech Sounds

 This story was actually different from the star because in this short story the main character was rye and it kept talking about this disease it had. I don't know whether it went over my head or something but i didn't really understand what the disease was. When the story said how Rye forgot how to read and speak led me to think why? Was it that since her family died did she stop talking to people in general and just forgot how to talk? Or did talking make her go back down memory lane? It kind of saddened me when the one man she met and the one man she wanted to come home with her died in such a instance. Also like Rye said it really had me was it jealousy that led the man to kill the childrens mother? It makes you think how could jealousy drive a person to kill another person?

Blog Set #3

In my opinion this story was actually very different from most science fiction stories.  Because usually in Science Fiction stories most of the times it would have something to do with an alien citing or even aliens in general, but this time it was talking about a regular family that wanted to have a regular baby. But as question "How Does Science/Technology Impinge On This Domestic Landscape"? goes I think the reason science and technology actually had something to do with it was because of the father. Because as it says on page 213 the mother was saying “darling why didn’t you write me sooner? I’m thrilled, of course, but, well, one hates to mention these things, but you are certain the doctor was right? Hanks been around all that uranium or thorium or whatever it is all these years, and I know you say he’s a designer, Not a technician and he doesn’t get near anything dangerous, but you know he used to back at oak ridge" basically it was the fathers fault the child came out like that. And all the mother thought was that the baby was normal and the baby was smarter then most babies. But you can tell towards the end that the father knew something was wrong when he said "Oh God, she didnt know"

 As to the story We See Things Differently goes I really didn’t get that story.  As the question how can we tell that the near future America depicted in this story is in economic and social decline goes was because everybody had something bad to say about America. As on page 612 it says "This is jahiliyah- the land of ignorance. This was America. The great Satan, the Arsenal of Imperialism. the Bankroll of Zionism, the Bastion of Neo-colonialism. The home of Hollywood and blonde sluts in black Nylon."  So basically  a lot of people really didn’t have any good to say about America.

BLOGGER SET #2

As I was reading the introduction it was a word that stuck out to me. The word was techno-scientific. Before I looked up the word techno-scientific I thought what it means so I broke the word down in 2. So when I hear the word techno I think it means something to do with mechanical things. Then when I hear the word science I think of chemical, equations and medicine. After I thought of what it ment I looked up the word. And when I looked up the term Techno-scientific it gave me the term techno science, the meaning of the term techno science is technological and social context of science

But as the short story "passengers" goes in my opinion is aliens are basically taking over the human body. Basically the aliens using them as their sex slave and leave whenever they please. Then when the aliens leave the humans body they leave the humans confused as to who or what they did. Some of you may disagree but the short story passengers remind me a LITTLE of the movie "Sybil" but instead of different personalities it’s just one sexual personality then when they get back into their rightful mind/body they don't know what happened. 

As to the short story “Out Of All Them Bright Stars" it was more of a prejudice story against aliens. The blue alien in the story was just another customer in the store just minding his business trying to get served and the waiter Sally was actually kind and actually served him. But it wasn't such a nice welcoming when the boss saw him. Since he looks different the boss didn’t want her to serve him. That kind of relates to life back in the day also life now, how if someone looks a certain way or if they were a certain gender or etc. people don't want to help or serve them. 

INTRODUCTION

Hey everyone its Erika. I’m 19 as you may already know I don’t really like horror movies. I will sit down and watch them but I’m not really a fan. I think the reason I really don’t like horror movies is because when i was younger when I lived in California I always took a sneak peek at scary movies with my brothers, until one day I watched it and it scared me for years. Ever since then I could never get back into it basically you can say I’m not the type that likes to get scared. I would rather prefer science fiction movies. For example I like the movies men in black, terminator, planet of the apes and avatar. As you can see I picked this class because I want to expand my knowledge of science fictional things.
